چکیده

Utilizing underground coal gasification cavities for carbon capture and sequestration provides a potentially economic sustainable solution to vexing environmental energy problem. The thermal influence on creep properties long-term permeability evolution around the chamber is key issue in UCG-CCS operation containing fugitive emissions. We complete multi-step loading unloading tests with measurement at confining stresses of 30 MPa pre-cracked sandstone specimens thermally heat-treated 250, 500, 750 1000 °C. Observations indicate critical threshold temperature 500 °C required initiate thermally-induced cracks subsequent strength reduction occurring Comparison histories creep, visco-elastic visco-plastic strains highlight existence strain jump certain deviatoric stress level—where intervening rock bridge between twin starter-cracks eliminated. As level increases, make up an important composition total strain, especially pre-treated higher temperatures, development leads time-dependent failure rock. pre-treatment produces their closure resulting increased instantaneous elastic plastic strains. With increasing ratio, steady-state rates increase slowly before ratio but rise suddenly over final failure. However, has no clear apparent steady rates. Rock subject temperatures exhibit permeabilities. pre-existing close under compression coplanar shear crack propagating from ultimately linking these formerly separate cracks. In addition, it that accommodate greater damage.

Anisotropy of sandstone permeability

Small-scale probe permeability measurements on differently oriented faces of highly compacted and quartz-cemented Viking Formation sandstones yield detailed permeability distributions that appear to be diagnostic of the grainand lamina-scale fabric of the samples. Permeability anisotropy of a single ‘structureless'-appearing sample is low, reflected by a kV / kH-ratio of 0.7; corresponding k-di...

Quantitative Characterization of Permeability Fluctuations in Sandstone

Sedimentary rocks have complicated permeability fluctuations arising from the geological processes that formed them. These permeability fluctuations significantly affect the flow of fluids through the rocks. We analyze data on two sandstone samples from different geological environments, and find that the permeability fluctuations display long-range power-law correlations characterized by an ex...

Creep and Creep–Rupture Behavior of Wood-Based Structural Panels

This paper summarizes a cooperative research program between the USDA Forest Service, Forest Products Laboratory (FPL), in Madison, Wisconsin, and Forintek Canada Corp. in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This research program provided detailed creep–rupture and some creep information for composite panel products. Commercially produced plywood, oriented strandboard (OSB), and minimally alig...

Microstructure evolution accompanying high temperature; uniaxial tensile creep of self-reinforced silicon nitride ceramics

Extensive transmission electron microscopy (TEM) has been performed to study the microstructure evolution of a self-reinforced silicon nitride associated with high temperature creep. A large population of strain whorls is observed in samples crept at relatively high temperatures and the strain whorls are not necessarily asymmetrical with respect to the grain boundary normal. Large angle converg...

Creep Parameters of Spruce Wood in High Temperature Environment

The paper presents partial results of an ongoing project dealing with thermal diffusion and mechanical behavior of spruce wood in high temperature environment (up to 180°C). The objective of this part of study was to obtain rheological properties of spruce wood which will be used in future modeling of wood performance in high temperatures. Oven dry samples (30 x 30 x 700 mm) underwent constant ...
